College Student Therapy Services

Providing empathetic, understanding support for the life transitions and challenges that come with young adulthood.

School stress can pile up fast

Heavy course loads, high expectations, and a very new sense of independence and responsibility can collide in college, making stress and anxiety an unwelcome part of college. That stress and anxiety can cause issues like insomnia, appetite changes, feelings of hopelessness, irritability, loss of joy, and more, which can make life pretty tough.

The therapists at North Texas Adult & Child Counseling Center are here to help you find ways to balance your commitments in school, to help you come up with systems and solutions that support your learning, while letting you live with less stress and anxiety.

We offer therapy support for college-aged folks dealing with…

  • Grief and loss

  • Life transitions

  • Moving away from home

  • Relationship issues (individual therapy)

  • Family conflict (individual therapy)

  • Anxiety and depression

  • School pressures and course load stress

  • Self-esteem and self-worth

Life transitions and newfound independence can be a challenge

As you move out of your childhood home and onto a new life, a lot of feelings and new challenges can pop up in your life. These shifts can be confusing and isolating, and it can be tough to face them on your own.

Newfound independence can be intimidating, and you may find yourself feeling impulsive, anxious, or struggling to make healthy, responsible decisions. Our therapists for young adults can help you find balance, without judgment or shame. We will work together to figure out your personal values and goals, with strategies and structures to help you meet your goals while staying true to your values.

Relationships can be tough to navigate

As a young adult, you’re entering a brave new world of relationships. Whether you’re trying to make new friends, struggling with old social habits, or dealing with strife in a romantic partnership, working with a therapist can help. Our off-campus therapists near Fort Worth can work with you to develop interpersonal skills that help you build the relationships you want in life.

On top of chosen relationships in your life, you may be dealing with family struggles as your role in the world, and in your family, changes. Our therapists can work with you to help you find healthy ways to cope, to communicate, and to set boundaries with your family.

Getting to the root of your mental health struggles can help long-term

Aside from life transitions and shifts in family relationships, you may find yourself dealing with mental health struggles. Anxiety and depression, as well as the effects of trauma, can impact your life and make it hard for you to thrive.

Our team of therapists provides a variety of therapy approaches, to help you get to the roots of your mental health struggles. With supportive strategies from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and powerful trauma healing from cognitive processing therapy (CPT) and EMDR, our team can help with whatever you’re going through.

We bring a client-centered and solution-focused approach to counseling, making sure to tailor care to each individual client.

Our therapists for college students and young adults work with a variety of therapy modalities to help you cope with life changes:

  • Cognitive processing therapy (CPT)

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)

  • EMDR

  • Solution-focused therapy

  • Parenting skills coaching

  • Therapy support with our ATD trained therapy dog, Ghost

Ghost, the Therapy Dog

Animal-assisted therapy is known to reduce stress in a therapy session, helping you build trust and open up. A friendly furry face can bring a lot of calm to the therapy room, and our therapy dog Ghost can act as a shoulder to lean on when you’re working through tough emotions.

Ghost is an Alliance of Therapy Dogs (ATD) trained therapy dog, who works with founder therapist Bradley Williamson in all his sessions. Ghost’s presence can reduce anxiety and bring comfort to your therapy sessions, helping you get the most out of your therapy experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions? Here are answers for a few of the most common. If your question isn’t answered here, don’t hesitate to get in touch, our admin team at North Texas Adult & Child Counseling Center is happy to connect with you.

  • We start by checking in, seeing where you are in life and how your week has gone. We go over any therapy homework you may have had, and will see how things went for you.

After checking in, we’ll dive back into the process we’ve developed together to work toward your therapy goals. Whether that involves talking through feelings or concerns you have, discussing approaches you can take in your day-to-day life, or having an EMDR session, we will work together to progress toward healing, and a life that looks the way you want it.

  • Anyone can make use of therapy. You don’t have to be in crisis to benefit from meeting with a therapist. Maybe you’re trying to go in a new direction in your life, and having someone who is non-judgemental and invested in your success can help. Maybe you need a venting space, to talk through your challenges and get feedback for them. Those are just two of the many ways therapy can help, even if you don’t feel your problems are severe.

That said, we often downplay our own problems. You don’t have to have the hardest life in the world to deserve help, and you may be having a tougher time than you realize. You deserve support any time, and our team of Fort Worth therapists are ready to help.

  • Therapy sessions are typically 55 minutes, with some flexibility depending on your scheduling needs. It is not uncommon for my clients to pursue an 8-12 week course of therapy with weekly sessions, but ongoing therapy is also possible with varying frequency, such as biweekly, for additional care needs.

  • At North Texas Adult & Child Counseling Center, we do a few things differently, that may work to your advantage in getting more out of therapy.

First, we are led by Bradley Williamson, a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, who has additional training in CPT and EMDR therapies. This focus on trauma therapy as a part of our broader therapeutic practice means we have a lot of tools in my therapist toolbox for helping you, some of which you may not have had access to before.

Also, we are solution-focused and client-centered in our therapy approach. This means that we will work together on actionable change, and our expert therapists will meet you where you are, with you at the helm, deciding your goals and needs in therapy.

  • We are an off-campus therapy provider. While we are not associated with any colleges around the Fort Worth area and will not report to them anything beyond what you ask of us, we are listed on popular college therapist directories, such as Thriv ngCampus and Welltrack Connect.

  • Please visit our frequently asked questions page for more general information about therapy with us!
